Position Summary
National OnDemand is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Fiber OSP (Outside Plant) Manager to oversee testing, validation, and quality assurance of fiber optic construction projects. This role is critical to ensuring the integrity, performance, and customer readiness of OSP fiber networks deployed across various geographies. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of fiber optic technologies, field testing standards, and strong coordination skills to lead multiple projects through final acceptance.
Key Responsibilities:
Testing & Quality Assurance
- Review and validate all OSP fiber test results, including OTDR, OLTS, Power Meter, FIP, CD, and PMD.
- Analyze dark fiber performance data for integrity, insertion loss, reflectance, and dispersion metrics.
- Utilize platforms such as EXFO FastReporter, ConnectorMax, Viavi FiberCable2 Suite, and Anritsu NetWorks to review test packages.
- Ensure all test settings meet client contractual requirements (e.g., correct wavelength, test duration, fiber type).
Reporting & Documentation
- Compile comprehensive fiber test reports for internal quality control and external client delivery.
- Maintain network documentation including as-builts, splice schematics, and test result records.
- Update and verify network inventory databases and GIS mapping tools.
- Cross-Functional Coordination
- Collaborate with project managers, construction supervisors, field techs, and clients to align on project readiness and handover requirements.
- Serve as subject matter expert (SME) for field teams on fiber test best practices, acceptance criteria, and standards compliance.
- Standards Compliance & Leadership
- Ensure adherence to National OnDemand’s OSP quality standards, client technical requirements, and industry best practices.
- Audit subcontractor testing output and drive accountability for correction of failed links.
- Proactively identify areas for performance improvement and streamline testing workflows.
Minimum Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in fiber optic testing, OSP fiber construction, or telecom project management.
- Working knowledge of fiber optic cable architectures, fiber splicing practices, and structured cabling systems.
- Hands-on experience with fiber diagnostic tools: OTDR, OLTS, power meters, inspection scopes, etc.
- Familiarity with testing/reporting platforms (e.g., EXFO, Viavi, Anritsu) and productivity tools (Excel, Word, Email, Google Earth).
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, splice schematics, and engineering diagrams.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications in fiber optics (e.g., FOA CFOT, ETA Fiber Optics Technician) a plus
- Experience supporting municipal, carrier, or enterprise-grade fiber deployments
- Familiarity with construction management software or project tracking tools
